STOKE SEEK TO END WINLESS RUN

Posted on December 20, 2020  in Stoke

Stoke City have not won any of their last two games in the English Championship but they have the opportunity to correct it when they travel to London to face Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Tuesday evening in the first game of week 19 matches in the second tier of English football this term. The recent run of two winless matches has derailed their push for a place in the playoffs but the club is still within touching distance of the final playoff spot presently occupied by London club Brentford.

Ahead of the new set of games in the Championship, Stoke City are two points off Brentford who reached the playoff final last season before they were piped to a place in the Premier League by Fulham.

Stoke City are presently in eighth position with 29 points, while Brentford are two points and two places better than the Potters on the league table. Stoke City started the current winless run with the home loss to Welsh team Cardiff City at the Britannia Stadium in what was a week 17 clash.

They were on course to secure the three points when Cardiff City defender Sean Morrison scored an own goal on 25 minutes to give Stoke City a first half lead. Martin O’Neill and his players then gavethe visitors the initiative in the second half and that led to two goals in ten minutes for the Bluebirds. Robert Glatzeland Sean Morrison were the Cardiff City scorers. Sean Morrison redeemed himself with the winning goal of the game having scored an own goal to open the scoring for the hosts.

The loss to Cardiff City at home was followed by the goalless draw at rejuvenated Derby County at the weekend in what was a week 18 game. They can end their winless run at QPR who are in 19th place on the log with 18 points. They are five points clear of the last relegation place occupied by Derby County.
