STOKE WINLESS RUN ENDS AT BLACKPOOL

Posted on November 11, 2021  in Stoke

Stoke City are back in the hunt for a place in the English Championship playoffs after their five-match winless run came to an end during the league encounter with their hosts, Blackpool. Veteran striker Steven Fletcher was the hero for Stoke City as he scored the only goal of the game to give his team a 1-0 win over the newly promoted team.

Martin O’Neill and his Stoke City players came into the Blackpool game with a run of five games without a win in all competitions. Four of those five games were in the Championship.

Stoke City had not won a Championship game since the impressive 1-0 home victory over fellow Premier League promotion hopefuls West Bromon the first day of last month until the Blackpool game at Bloomfield Road on Wednesday. The Potters were on a four-match winless run in the Championship before the met the newcomers and the poor run of games ensured that they dropped out of the playoff slots.

Blackpool were in the playoff places before the Stoke City game having gone on the run of four successive wins in the league. The Tangerines had a two-point cushion over the Potters. At the end of their meeting, Stoke City were able to leapfrog their hosts on the Championship standings thanks to the goal from ex-Sheffield Wednesday attacker Fletcher eleven (11) minutes from time. Fletcher was able to score his third goal in eleven (11) Championship games with the winner against Blackpool.

Stoke City are now back in the playoffs with the slim win over the Tangerines, while their opponents drop out of the playoffs. The Potters are in sixth place on the log as things stand with 25 goals from sixteen (16) games, while Blackpool are down to tenth place with 24 points from sixteen (16) matches.
