Spurs show there’s still work to be done

Posted on September 27, 2014

Tottenham proved that there is still a lot of work to be done under new manager Mauricio Pochettino after the team could only manage a 2-2 draw against Sunderland in the latest league match. Tottenham came into the encounter after having made a great start to the campaign, but that was recently halted by a 3-0 defeat against Liverpool. Tottenham looked very poor in this encounter and it appears that they have not recovered fully from this humiliating defeat. Despite taking a very early lead in the match, they failed to see out the full 90 minutes and ended up conceding a late equaliser.
Chadli had given Tottenham the lead after just two minutes on the clock but it did not take long for the home team to come back with a goal from former Manchester City winger Adam Johnson. From then on, Tottenham were on the upper hand and their dominance resulted in the goal from midfielder Christian Eriksen just after the break. Heading into the final 10 minutes of the match, it looked like Tottenham would get three points and put behind the memories of the Liverpool defeat. Sunderland, though, pushed on and were rewarded with an own goal from Harry Kane in the 82nd minute.
“I am very disappointed. We created a lot of chances and I think we deserved to win today but this is football. Yes the performance can improve and when we analyse today we are very disappointed because in a normal way you get the three points with the chances we have. You need to kill the game and we have had the chances to kill the game and if you don’t kill the game maybe the opponent will have a chance and today they were lucky,” said the Tottenham manager. The club’s next league match is against strugglers West Brom at home.
