Stoke City target Baker has a few months left on his Chelsea contract which will expire in the summer and it’s unlikely that the West London giants will hand him a new contract. Baker is one of the longest serving players at Chelsea having joined the club in 2005, but he’s yet to make a single appearance for the club in the Premier League. Baker made an appearance in the FA Cup for the Blues at the weekend during the 5-1 home win over lower league team Chesterfield in the third round.

Baker has a lot of experience in the Championship. He has been sent out on loan eight times and four of the eight loan deals were to Championship teams. The midfielder spent last season on loan in the Turkish Super League with Trabszonspor and he scored two goals in 34 appearances for the club.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel planned to include him in his squad for the Carabao Cup quarterfinal win over West London rivals Brentford until he tested positive for Covid-19 and was unable to feature in the game that ended 2-0 to Chelsea thanks to goals from Pontus Jansson (own goal) and Jorginho (penalty). Baker is a central midfielder but he can also play as a defensive midfielder.

At the moment, Baker has not fitness issues and he has already featured three times for the Chelsea reserves in the EFL Trophy plus eight appearances in Premier League II. With six months left on his current Chelsea deal, he can agree a free transfer move with teams outside England.
